The Public License:

♥ The Marriage license can be issued from any county and the marriage ceremony can take place anywhere in the state.

♥ At least one witness is required to be present at the ceremony.

♥ The marriage becomes public record.

♥ The Public License is valid for 90 days and there is no waiting period.

♥ You do not have to be a resident of California to be married in California.

The Confidential License:

♥ This requires the couple to be living together prior to the marriage. An affidavit must be signed under penalty of perjury for this requirement. Documented proof is not required.

♥ The Marriage Ceremony must take place in the County where the marriage license is issued.

♥ No witnesses are required to be present at the ceremony.

♥ The marriage record is kept confidential from public viewing. Certified copies are only available to the spouses on the marriage record upon satisfactory proof of identity to the County Clerk.

♥ A public marriage license cannot be changed to a confidential marriage license, and a confidential marriage license cannot be changed to a public marriage license after issuance.

♥ The Confidential License costs $70.00 for Los Angles County.

♥ The Confidential License is valid for 90 days and there is no waiting period.

♥ You do not have to be a resident of California to get a Confidential License to be married in California.
