Applying for a
Regular Marriage License: Both partners must go together when applying for a marriage license. Bring a government issued photo I.D. such as a passport or a driver’s license. There is no waiting period to get married and a marriage license is valid for 90 days. If you were married before, you must supply the date that marriage ended. If you are divorced, you will need to know the exact date of when your divorce was finalized. If your divorce was finalized within the last 90 days, you will need to bring your divorce decree with you. Blood tests are not required. You must be at least 18 or have written consent of at least one parent (or legal guardian) and permission from a California superior court judge. The license fee varies by county and can be paid in cash, pre-printed California check or money order written out to the County Clerk. Credit cards are not accepted. You will need one witness. It is suggested that you call the county courthouse from where you plan to obtain your marriage license to see if they take appointments. Couples can submit their application for a marriage license online. To apply for an LA County Marriage License application online see: www.lavote.net/RECORDER/PDFS/confMarriageApp.pdf PLEASE NOTE: State and county marriage license requirements often change.
